A guru, hanged men, elephants, docks, a camper trailer – what do these disparate objects have in common? They all add colour to Le show poche, the new choreographic patchwork by Catherine Tardif. In a series of impressionistic sequences performed by four men and a woman, this master of the absurd takes the audience on a journey along the twists and turns of the human soul, pointing out its flaws. And as usual in her work, the sublime and the ridiculous share the limelight. Since founding her company, Et Marianne et Simon, the Montreal choreographer uses her dancers’ lives as her source material, probing their emotional and sense memory to create intimate pieces that are both strange and familiar, freely moving beyond the limits of established genres. Often minimalist, the movement is raw and direct, the better to evoke the gaffes and awkwardness of this group of tender-hearted antiheroes. Flitting between dance and theatre, between dreams and everyday life, the result offers a delightful bolt of energy for the imagination.
Show triste :
“This Montreal artist knows how to keep the audience constantly oscillating between fleeting entertainment and caricature, and the touching aspects of human experience that leave a strong impression. And she achieves all that just with movement. »
Voir, 2006
“The signature is unique, the spirit inimitable. (…) With each new piece she ploughs the same furrow and plants her seeds in the same manner. What she harvests is always different, but imbued with the same scent of humanity – the fragility of being.”
