Presented during the 5th edition of the FTA, the Japanese play HOT PEPPER, AIR CONDITIONER, AND THE FAREWELL SPEECH by director Toshiki Okada received the critics’ award from the Association québécoise des critiques de théâtre for the 2010-2011 season.
The AQCT noted that the piece, “a highly original look at the workaday lives of employees in a Japanese corporation, an alienating universe where communication is as abundant as it is faulty, was an immediate hit with the critics. While serious, the subject matter is treated with irresistible ridicule and served with consummate absurdity, magnified by a rich combination of word and gesture that results in a singular yet universal work.”
Note also that another Japanese play in this year’s line-up, YUME NO SHIRO by Daisuke Miura, was also nominated in the same category.
Congratulations to the creators of these highly original and outstanding plays!
