Can robots be unhappy? What is a botanical concert? What will the microcomputers of 2095 look like? How does one create a cyber version of Tristan and Isolde? Do the multiple ampersands of the title indicate the decline of language and the triumph of computer jargon?
Tremendously intelligent and ingenious tinkerers, the French duo of Halory Goerger and Antoine Defoort present an unclassifiable experience that lies somewhere between installation art and theatre, science and fiction, serious thought and mischievous pranks. There is nothing cut-and-dried about this “cable and sword show”, no beginning or end. The chronology is left up to the spectator. Behind the seemingly flippant façade, however, these sly explorers of time and space propose real questioning about the future of humanity as we know it. In a casual, offhand manner, these two iconoclastic inventors invite the audience to think about our fantasies of modernity as they turn portrayal and presentation upside down, transporting us into a quirky, futuristic and interactive cabaret.

Antoine Defoort and Halory Goerger are, in no particular order, musicians, actors, philosophers, pranksters, artists and inventors. Their co-op, L'Amicale de production, presents projects produced by various members of the group, a system that offers each creative team complete independence.
Their wacky, ingenious and entertaining shows make sport of the usual codes of performance and portrayal. Merrily mixing genres together, each contributes different artistic elements, whether it be videos of fake dance commercials, sound poems, interactive installations or a Kraftwerk hit song sung by a choir. Each one has also mounted a solo piece, Indigence = élégance for Antoine Defoort (presented in Montreal and Quebec City in 2010), and Métrage variable for Halory Goerger. As the show jumps from one subject to another, the spectators create their own connections from a rush of stimulating, incredible experiences. &&&&& & &&&, subtitled “a cable and sword show”, was initially presented in France before going on to tour Belgium, Switzerland, Portugal and Austria. A “frontal” version, entitled simply &, is also available.

« Voilà un drôle d’objet. Ou comment deux zozos bricolos transforment le Théâtre de la Cité Internationale en laboratoire rigolo. Mais il ne faudrait pas prendre cela par dessus la jambe. Cette performance, cet objet théâtral non identifié, a l’intérêt certain d’amener, chose rare, la science-fiction au théâtre. Nos deux performers, Halory Goerger et Antoine Defoort, interrogent avec beaucoup d’humour cette culture bien particulière. Entre hommages et parodies, les situations s’enchaînent comme autant de jeux fictionnels qui interrogent la mémoire du genre et les clichés afférents.
