The Dance and Theatre Event
Next Edition : May 21 to June 5, 2008

Every spring, the Festival TransAmériques unfolds on Montreal stages with a rich, bracing program of theatre and dance.

Featuring each year some twenty companies from here and abroad, this very unique festival offers an exciting portrayal of contemporary art through the works of choreographers, writers and directors.

The first edition of the new festival, which took place in spring 2007, was a resounding success. Guided by her well-known taste for risk and audacity, festival director Marie-Hélène Falcon selected strong, striking works, proving beyond doubt that the cohabitation of dance and theatre is as natural as it is stimulating. In turn surprised, moved, charmed, disconcerted and dazzled, audiences flocked to the festival. In its very first edition, the Festival TransAmériques made its mark as a major unifying event.

Renewal and Continuity
The Festival TransAmériques is the offshoot of the Festival de théâtre des Amériques (FTA), which from 1985 to 2006 greatly contributed to increasing access to international contemporary theatre works. Like its predecessor, the "new and improved" FTA features exciting and emblematic companies and the leading lights of contemporary theatre and dance, as well as lesser-known artists who are equally daring and influential, transforming the landscape of artistic expression. The event is also an opportunity for young up-and-coming artists, providing a national and international showcase for their work. A hub of reflection and exchange, the festival presents several parallel activities (films, exhibits, readings, workshops, symposia, debates, etc.) in order to provide a comprehensive and critical context to the work of the guest artists.
